Dialysis Technician
A dialysis technician performs a variety of imperative healthcare functions to help patients cope with kidney failure. Some of the tasks dialysis technicians are responsible for on a daily basis include:
- Understanding and explaining prescriptions to patients
- Preparing patients for procedures
- Setting up equipment
- Documenting clinical findings
- Monitoring patients during and after treatments
- Administering patient medication
Through dialysis technology training, students learn how to assist patients with dialysis treatments by studying anatomy, physiology, sanitation and ethics. Dialysis classes are designed to prepare students to work in a variety of healthcare settings and to handle the pressures and stress that come with the job.
Dialysis technicians must take a variety of courses to be trained to provide emergency intervention for patients in a crisis. Performing CPR and providing emergency oxygen are two necessary training certifications for dialysis technicians to learn.
