Medical Assistant Employment Outlook

Medical Assistant is expected to be one of the fastest growing health care professions in the coming decade. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, growth will be in excess of 50 percent in the period. The highest demand will be for Medical Assistants who have passed a national certification program and those with formal training.

In 2004, there were approximately 387,000 people employed in the U.S. as Medical Assistants.

With medical advances and an aging population, the U.S. will experience growth in the health care industry in general and outpatient settings in particular. Because Medical Assistants typically work in outpatient settings, handling both clinical and administrative duties, demand for experienced workers will be exceptionally strong.
