Pharmacy Technician Employment Outlook
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, part-time and full-time jobs for Pharmacy Technicians will grow up to 27 percent by 2014. A large portion of the growth will be driven by the increase in the number of pharmaceutical retail outlets. Technicians most in demand will be expected to have formal training or experience.
In 2004, there were approximately 258,000 people employed in the U.S. as Pharmacy Technicians.
Just as with other health care professions, scientific advances and an aging population will drive employment opportunities for Pharmacy Technicians. More and more medications will continue to come on the market and require systems that meet the demands of insurers and pharmacies.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, automation will continue to take over a number of duties formerly done by Pharmacy Technicians. However, servicing those machines and meeting the needs of the growing pharmaceutical market ultimately still provide a good job outlook for Pharmacy Technicians.
